Cdn. Polar Bear Decline: Another Perspective

Polar Bear on WikipediaAs you would expect, I don’t fall easily for the anti-hunting propaganda machine. Apparently, it is doom and gloom for the Canadian Polar Bear (at least if you believe HSUS or the New York Times) because of hunting and global warming. I have posted various times on this topic and I have felt if the polar bear is truly endanger then, something should be done. However, ending hunting of the bears will actually keep huge amounts of dollars and incentive away from communities and studies that are vital to bear research.Various anti-hunting groups are blaming hunting and “global warming” as the vices that are anhilating the bears.

I came across an interesting blog post with some credible data that is actually indicating these groups have it all wrong. Data is showing bear populations to be climbing or stable. A portion of the research summary says,

While Taylor doesn’t dispute that climate change is happening, he thinks that recent worries over polar bear population loss is extreme and premature. “They are generalizing to the rest of the world that we are losing them … How can our observations be in such dire opposition to theirs?
