Teacher On Admin Leave: Holding Gun in Facebook Photo

This one hits close to home for me. A Wisconsin teacher is on administrative leave after a ‘concerned’ staff member told school officials about a photo on Facebook that had the teacher (in question) holding a gun. The news article is reported on MSNBC and you can read it here. I looked for the ‘alarming’ photo but it was removed by its owner.

You have to love those ‘concerned’ staff members. I mean, what are they concerned about? Since when does holding a gun in a Facebook photo mean you need to lose your job or that you have become a risk to society? Don’t play the bad role model card either. No laws were broken. She is a school teacher – not a gang member!

I love the the school’s Superintendent’s, Donald Childs, statement in the news article:

“Childs says the use of the photo “appears to be poor judgment” and is unaware of any sinister intent.” Entire Article Here

Why is it labeled ‘poor judgment’ if there was no sinister intent? I guess all the photos with me holding a gun or when I make references to guns in my posts are done in ‘poor judgment’.

I work in schools everyday. How long will it be until a ‘concerned’ blog visitor or staff member reports me to school officials? This is what really bothers me about this situation. Could it happen here? I hope not. That being said, I remember a blog post I did last year where a ‘concerned’ citizen called the cops on a man who took a locked gun case out of the back of his car. The event happened in British Columbia and it created quite a stir. You can read my post about this here.

hunter_trackingLooking forward I hope 2 things happen. The first is a full reinstatement of this teacher’s job with an apology from the Superintendent and the ‘concerned’ staff member. What they did WAS in poor judgment and of SINISTER intent. The second is the development of ‘chill pill’ for those who over react to legal firearm owners posing with guns in their own photos. If you aren’t sure if you need this kind of pill, look at the photo (left) and if you see a terrorist or gang member plotting to bring the world to its end instead of a responsible citizen hunting – you need this kind of pill. (The photo is of my father)

However, what do I know? I am just a sinister firearm owner.
