Deer Camp Update: Day 4 Part 2

Our Special Ops campaign did not produce any deer. Although, the plan did put 2 moose in front of 3 different hunters.

I was one of them.

They came within 20 yards of me and had no idea I was there. The moose dissapeared before I could grab my camera.

That was all we saw today. It’s like the deer have vanished from our area.

After much discussion on what is going on, we he have decided that hunting is not like the videos and some TV shows. We don’t hunt over large plots of Biologic and pass up 10 deer before we take a shot.

We theorize that deer in our neck of the woods don’t need to travel huge distances for water, food or shelter. There are limited travel routes to the ‘kitchens’ and ‘bedrooms’ of the deer because cover and food sources are usually found in close proximity. It’s tough to pattern deer because of this.

We also think the deer are just hunkering down and not moving with the protection of deep cover. It’s obvious the rut is too early to make the big bucks stupid. They are starting scrape lines though.

We have 1.5 days left with a change in weather coming. Perhaps, it will make all the difference.

Keep hunting hard!

A fair theory. Quite possibly that’s the way it went – those crazy deer just assume too much. They need to loosen up, and run around a bit…preferably directly beneath a tree stand.

You are right, Tom. I think we are frustrated that anything good you see in videos etc. Are not working here. I did not mean to slam your videos… :)

Another theory we are throwing around is that the that the deer (we saw in moose season) went into lockdown after moose season.

The deer just assumed it was deer season.

You won’t be seeing us pass up 10 bucks before taking a shot! Our videos aren’t like most, though, I reckon. :)

Sorta funny – I mean to the outside observer – that during moose season you see deer and during deer season you see moose. Probably not overly funny for you all, though! Well – at least you got some time alone in the wild and got to see some awesome sunrise/sunsets and got to experience nature the way it was meant to be experienced!
