With another update of WordPress (version 2.6), I thought I would try out the Automatic WordPress Update Plug-in that is available on the WordPress site. It made things simple and straightforward and it back-ups your blog for you before it begins the update process.
The only hitch I ran into was at the final step and the purpose of this blog post. The plug-in asked me to log into my WordPress admin panel after updating. At this point, I was locked out of my blog admin but my blog was still functioning. After some forum searching, I found that the issue appears to be related to my recent version Firefox 3 browser. I switched browsers (in my case – to Safari) and I was able to login and complete the update.
I updated a second blog that I have (after writing this post) and found that clearing Firefox’s cache, history and private data also worked me around the issue.
Hope this saves some frustration for some of you who try this great plug-in.

Bill … Hmm, see you got caught in the same ‘techno-web’ as many others. Your advice on clearing the Firefox cache is a good one for ANYONE working with a browser and having a problem with updates or anything related to changing a web-based site. The cache is a double-edged sword: it remembers both the good, the bad and then some become ugly!
However, I dearly love the latest version of WP. Best piece of software going for the online publisher. “. )
I see you’re growing! Good to see, too. I’ll be in contact again soon. Been too, long. I’m actually gearing up for more writing on my far-too-long-abandoned blogs. “. )
Good days afield and stream to ‘ya!!
