Before You Net A Fish: Don’t Say This
I am referring to the crucial moments before your ‘monster’ fish makes it’s final approach into your fishing partner’s net. All of us who fish, and depend on someone else to net our fish, understand the magical moments before a fish is brought into your boat. So, if you must net someone’s fish, I recommend you do NOT say the following things:
- “Well…I got your lure back!”
- “Umm…hand me your .38 Special QUICK!”
- “Are you sure you had a fish on?”
- “There are easier ways to bring in the anchor.”
- “Are my under pants showing?”
- “Remember the last fish you didn’t net for me?”
- “Hand me my cell phone would ya..it’s ringing.”
- “Uh..Oh!”
- “Are loons in season?”
- “Which one is your bait?”
- “Which end is the handle?”
- “Get this thing to let go of my hand…”
- “I don’t need to use the net for that!”
Any I missed? Comment Below.

Let’s just say that someone’s father, with whom someone was fishing, was very understanding. He also had a back-up net. So the fish was safely retrieved.
Also, the water wasn’t that deep, so the back-up net was returned to the boat.
I like these additions everyone! Keep ‘em coming.
Kristine – I would like to know what happened after someone dropped the net…no-names.
“How deep is the water here?”
After you’ve just dropped the net.
Someone, I won’t say exactly who, did that once.
Here’s one that was recently (relatively) shouted at the mate…
“It’s a gaff, not a harpoon you idiot!”
Yelled after the gaff went by the boards… and as the fish pulled the hook.
