2008-2009 Ontario Fishing Regs Released

It took a long time coming, but the crew at the Ontario MNR came through and released the fishing regulations for the upcoming 2008-2009 year.

There was some controversy surrounding an earlier release because of the way the MNR was attempting to change the fishing areas within the province. By making less divisions (in attempt to simplify things) it was thought that lakes with unique needs would get painted by a broad brush. This could have had some negative effects on the fishing and wildlife in those lakes.

Instead of rushing production of the regs, the MNR decided to take some extra time to determine the impact of their actions. This latest release is the final result.

Mike Reader, of OFAH, has this to say about the regulations:

“We welcome the release of the new fishing regulations, and are pleased that the changes are responsive to the interests of the angling community,” said Mike Reader, Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters Executive Director. “I encourage all anglers to get a copy of the summary before going fishing.”

Take some time and read up on the changes. It is the Ontario angler’s responsibility to know the fishing guidelines in the area they are fishing in. Follow this link to read the regulations online.
