The Day After The Hunt: PDCWS?

Prescription PicI drove past a local pharmacy and wondered which aisle would hold some medication for Post Deer Camp Withdrawal Syndrome.

This is a serious condition that infects 90% of deer hunters globally. Symptoms usually include blank stares out work place windows paired with slight, subtle movements of your thumbs (as if to click-off an imaginary safety on an invisible firearm). Many PDCWS sufferers also indicate that there are often ‘awkward’ moments around the family dinner table as the inflicted quickly clear off the table to make room for topographical maps and gun cleaning equipment.

I absolutely have PDWCS! There is no quick cure other than time and the upcoming ice fishing season.

Hang in there fellow inflicted.

For those of you who have been following my ‘on location’ posts (via my cell phone), the hunt ended without incident. No deer were shot – although some of the deer we saw were very lucky (aka – 9 Lives Doe).

Game and FishPerhaps, we were poor hunters. Although, we were careful to do everything ‘by the book’ and spent numerous hours at our stands, it was as if the deer (in the area we have been hunting for years) changed the way they did things. The weather was terrible the first few days. This may have hampered our chances. Click on the photos (below) for Tuesday and Wednesday weather shots from my watch. Nature threw rain and snow mixes at us. I ‘Googled’ bad weather bucks and found this article that may have been able to help us in the bad weather. It is a good read.

Despite our lack of winter meat, it was time well spent.

If any of you are also suffering from PDWCS comment below and we can start a support group. Details to follow. Perhaps we could partner with our brothers and sisters suffering from Buck Fever?

Well, I’m sorry that you didn’t get any deer, but there’s always next time.

And, as you said, ice fishing is coming.
