Thursday: Doe With 9 Lives
- I had some posting errors on my original Thursday post. This is a shortened post. -
Our well executed morning drives to flush out the big buck, from the other night, did not work. The falling snow made it easy to determine fresh tracks from old. The bad news is that we did not SEE any fresh tracks. It also meant that the big buck was still there.
We switched our focus for the afternoon and hunted some different lots.
There were no sightings until the evening hunt. That’s when things got very interesting.
Just before sundown I was walking back to the camp. As I neared the camp pond, I saw a doe feeding on the pond’s bank. I brought my gun up and put dad’s ‘Red Dot’ just behind it’s front shoulder. As I pulled back the hammer to release the safety to fire, dad drove his truck into the camp driveway. The doe bolted before I could squeeze off a shot.
Swell.
Kevin, also returned with 3 sightings. He did not want to shoot a doe and it’s two fawns.
Morale was high around the dinner table tonight. It seems the deer are moving again.
Before I went to bed, I took another look across the pond. Somewhere in the darkness, I thought I heard a doe ‘meow’.
