As Long As The Other Animals Were Not Looking

Barn DoorI noticed an interesting blog post over at the Black Bear Blog. Tom came across an interview with PETA Founder, Ingrid Newkirk. She is asked how to humanely kill an animal. Her answer was the following,

“If you could go into a barn with an animal alone and shoot him in the head when they wasn’t expecting it and no other animals were looking, go on then if you just can’t give this up.” (meaning give up eating meat) Entire Post Here

Someone better tell the other top level predators (ie. Mr. Wolf) they have to do their killing in private. Apparently, they are not very humane about their manner of killing.

I wonder if deer hunting could be considered humane by this definition becuase:

  1. I am alone, there are usually no other deer around at the time
  2. They don’t know it’s coming
  3. The deer is not locked in a barn before I pull the trigger

Phew. My conscience is clear.
