Rapala Tournament Fishing

rapala360.jpgI was in a Rapala Fishing Tournament on Lake Erie last weekend and won! The bad thing was my prize money only exists on my Xbox 360′s hard drive. I rented Rapala Tournament Fishing and have enjoyed playing it, but there are some things I would have done differently.

The bottom line is, the game kept me entertained for short bursts of time over the week, but the fact that I will return on the due date speaks volumes to me. My own personal observation would be that games that are GREAT, I keep at home well past the due date.

rapala3_qjpreviewth.jpgDo not get me wrong…it was fun. The graphics were good (Click on photo to the right). The number of ‘catchable’ fish species was great. The these things could have made it better for me:

  • Split Screen Multiplayer on the SAME console
  • More Boat and Character Customization (you only get what they give you – that’s not much)
  • The boat control was difficult. Where is the trolling motor?!
  • Another look at species location – I caught a King Salmon in 6 ft of water during a summer fish
  • You can’t move around the boat – I was only able to fish from the front.
  • Pick your own music function – the music provided got on my nerves
  • No reel ‘clicking’ noise – My reel is quiet when I bring line in – why are there clicking noises on the reel in?

I should add that if I played longer, I may have been able to do some of things I listed above. They were not apparent for the beginning player. Go ahead and buy it. It is still enjoyable, but I am going to wait until it hits the clearance bin.

* ASIDE: The game reminded me of that Sega Arcade game (with the fishing rod attachment) you would see at arcades and fun parks. I would love to have one of those arcade games in my basement. Do they exist anymore?
