2 Favorite Lake Trout Lures

2fave_lures_sm.jpg The weather is going up to 16 degrees C this week. This means 2 things: Some great ice fishing weather and that spring is coming with warmer temperatures (fingers crossed) and this leads to ice-break-up for spring Lake Trout.

I thought I would sport a couple of my favorite lake trout lures for this time in the spring when the lake trout can be caught without downriggers.

This is becuase the water is still very cold and these fish can be very close to the surface. I have caught lakers in 3 – 5 feet of water in Vernon lake. Without fail, I will make sure my tackle box has the large-lipped silver walleye diver and a rapala equivalent with a blue back finish. Click on the photo for a larger view. I always forget to keep the packaging so I can’t give the exact lure names. Tie on a large rubber core sinker about 6 inches up the line from your leader. Presto – You could tie into some Huntsville lakers this spring.

Caution – the rubber core sinker can twist a bit and tangle your presentation.
