Lake Ontario United

secretlure_sm.jpgI was happy to be asked to have a look at, and review, the Lake Ontario United website! It is a forum that is heavy on community and initially you get the impression that its existence is to benefit sportsmen (meaning men & women) who are impacted by the fisheries in Lake Ontario and it’s tributaries.

It will be a great resource for me as I am looking for some advice on some tributaries where I can hook into some rainbows and salmon for some spring and fall trips.

Within minutes of browsing their public forums I had learned several new tips and tricks about fishing this huge international lake. Things like:

  • locating and fishing for early season brown trout
  • tips on down-rigger releases
  • planer board set-ups
  • a secret no-name spoon for Lake Ontario Fish (see pic at start of post)
  • boat set-ups
  • ports of call
  • ice fishing tips and reports
  • and much more!

If you register and contribute to the discussion you can also gain access to their fishing report section. I joined and checked the reports out. There was some helpful material there but they could use more input from any of our visitors who may fish this lake. Leave your mark!

The registration process was simple and straight forward. They make sure to tell you that your email address will not be misused. The site is well designed and easy to navigate.

Another great feature that I enjoyed was their optional conservation pledge. They simply ask you to take their pledge and ‘cyber-sign’ your name. A simple gesture that reminds you to respect the waters we fish.

I will be frequenting this site and you should too. Fishing on Lake Ontario is something I have yet to do. When that happens, the first place I will go is the Lake Ontario United website.
