7 Billion Dollar Injection.

DFO Canada That is how much the Department of Fisheries and Oceans pegs the amount of money that 4 million anglers needle into the Canadian economy. This is according to a report that has been shared by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. The Federation is applauding the Harper government for reviewing, fixing, and implementing a new Fisheries Act. The report states,

“Having received a technical briefing on the new Federal Fisheries Act (Bill C-45) from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (D.F.O.) on February 16, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) agrees with Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (O.M.N.R.) staff that the new Fisheries Act will benefit Ontario’s fisheries resources and aquatic ecosystems.” Entire Article Here.

Check out the OFAH site. It’s a good resource. They also do many things to represent hunters and fisherman to our various levels of government.

With a 7 billion dollar input into our economy, you can bet the Government will want to make sure that our fisheries stay viable. I wonder if any of those ‘anti-fishing’ groups are able to inject $7 billion dollars (per year) into our economy?

That is exactly the point we fishers and hunters need to make every time the anti-everything crowd bashes us. While animal rights have no solution to wildlife management and no economic contribution. We outdoor enthusiast not only bring in the bacon in billions but we know that most of this money will be spent on the upkeep of crown lands, provincial parks rivers and lakes plus any number of other wildlife and nature projects.

    Good post.
