One of our forum users recently posted this update about ice fishing on Lake Muskoka. Westy, also left some advice and asks some good questions. If you know any of the answers he would appreciate a reply. He says,
I went up to Port Carling on the weekend. I ended up sledding most of the weekend but I did get out for about a hour and half. I caught two lakers and lost one. The lake trout were small around 20 inches. Is this a normal size for lake muskoka? I fished the lake several years ago and I remembered the fish to be of a bigger size. Is it just a fluke that I caught two small ones? I still do not know about sledding on the ice. Is it safe yet? I was using a variety of baits but I found that the fish preferred spoons instead of jigs and plastics. I was fishing i the 90 – 70 fow zone. I marked a pile of fish for the time that i was there. Has anyone caught any whitefish on the lake?? Thanks for the help! Comment below or click here to register your comments in our forum.

RE: sledding on ice conditions.
I was on Lake Muskoka end of February and found some slushie parts (one inparticular was about 100 feet from end to end – could have ended in a big puddle). My advice – STICK TO THE TRAILS AND STAKED AREAS. Because of the snow cover creating insulation the ice is not ideal. Stay on the beaten path and don’t take any risks.
