Women Who Like Guns

bc-gregson2.jpg ”I don’t think we should be embarrassed or ashamed of the fact that we’re legal gun owners who enjoy a sport and want to talk about protection issues particularly if they apply to women.”

As stated by, Sharon Gregson, in a CBC article about her support for concealed weapon permits in Canada. Sharon can currently carry a concealed weapon in the US and wonders why Canadians can not do the same. As you can imagine, this opened a ‘fire-bucket’ of controversy from gun-control groups. I am undecided about the ‘carrying a concealed weapon’ issue (which may surprise some of our American readers). This is because it has never really been part of my culture and upbringing. My opinion on this topic will be in different post on a later date.

In the back-lash, that this responsible gun owner has been facing, one gun-control group representative said:

There is no evidence whatsoever that arming women makes them safer,” Cukier said. “In fact, the evidence is quite the contrary, that more guns results in more deaths and injuries.

I have not seen research/studies done into any correlations between personal safety and carrying a concealed weapon. I will look for some as this would be interesting to determine. Something at the end of this statement worries me. Apparently, more guns = more deaths and injuries. That is a ‘blanketing’ and misleading statement. I would word it differently. Something like,

More idiots/criminals/terrorists using guns = more death and injuries.

This is the major concept that current gun control measures DO NOT address and target. That would actually be something that would be effective. The fact that responsible citizens like, Sharon Gregson, and many of our readers want to use registered firearms responsibly does not mean we are contributing to more deaths and injuries. Sportsmen (and of course Sportswomen) using firearms have an incredible safety record. Don’t lump “us” in warmongers, criminals, and terrorists.

It is refreshing to hear about a woman who likes guns. Two thumbs up, Sharon.
