After a meeting with a client for a website, I took advantage of the day to dip a fly in my usual fishing hole on the Muskoka River. After several minutes at my spot I considered whether or not to move upstream where the water was very rough.
The water at my usual spot (photo to the right) has risen significantly since August. This spot was very productive in the summer…not today.
Looking upriver, where a dam system creates waterfalls, I thought I should try my minnow imitation fly in the rough stuff. For a rookie to this style of fishing it was tough. The fast current and swirling eddies creat unique challenges on each cast.
Then it hit me. Maybe this fast stuff is for spinning systems only? What do you guys think?
I gave up after about 10 minutes and headed back to our house.
I snapped a photo of a quiet pool just before I got into my car.
