Muskoka Outdoors is patenting a custom shooting bench. It is ‘guaranteed’ to be cheap. Dad wanted to check the optics on his Bushnell Holosight. My initial negative reaction was that we have nothing to shoot from. He must have sensed my negativity when he asked me to pass him: 3 old cushions, binoculars, an old election sign (the party to remain confidential).
We pulled our picnic table to a good position and dad set-up his new stand. The election sign was tacked up to a tree, with a good back drop, at 50yds. In short order, dad had the cushions under his support arm and was ready to fire his first shot. He picked a particular letter in the sign and began consistently hitting it.
Dad would check each shot (without getting up) with his binoculars. Every time he checked he would second guess the functionality of the binoculars he was using. I had to look to ‘confirm’ his accuracy.
Dad switched to a holosight because he had trouble making out the reticule in his regular scope. The red dot is easy to see and it will not fog-up. He also says that he can track deer for follow up shots with this style of ‘optic’. This can be difficult with a scope as it easy to lose deer in the narrow field of view.
Remember, sight your gun in this year. You can do it for cheap.
