Evinrude sent my father a letter indictating his 90 E-tec was on recall notice. It actually was hard for us to believe as it has been working flawlessly. Quick starts. Quiet opertation. Great performance. Awesome fuel economy! We will be loading up on the trailer today to take it to the dealer to fix a possible rogue fuel filter. The press release from Envinrude says,
BRP US Inc. in the United States and Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. in Canada (collectively “BRP”) are conducting a voluntary safety recall campaign on 2004 – 2007 Model Year 40 – 90 HP Evinrude E-TEC outboards with serial numbers below SN 5166490.
Those fuel filters will get you everytime. We are thankful for the notice and we love the engine enough to get excited about loading it up onto the trailer. If you noticed in the letter (somewhere after it tells you take the engine in to the dealer) it says,
For your safety, please do not attempt to start or use this product until an authorized Evinrude/Johnson dealer has completed the necessary service.
Dad and I are still laughing about that line. How are we supposed to drive our boat to the boat ramp to get it fixed without starting it? I guess that is a bit of corporate ‘back-end’ covering.
Anyway, we are still going to start our E-tec up. If you don’t hear from me soon you will know what happened.
