Hunt more Deer and Moose in Ontario!

stontario.gif The MNR is changing current regulations to allow longer Deer and Moose seasons in Ontario. Not every WMU is impacted by the changes so do not get too excited and book extra time off work. The news from the MNR says,

The ministry has expanded or modified deer hunts in some parts of the province to control increasing deer populations and associated problems, such as deer-vehicle collisions, crop damage and habitat degradation.

Moose hunting opportunities for archery hunters have been enhanced and a consistent date for the opening of the moose season in eight Wildlife Management Units in northwestern Ontario is now in place. It will be easier for mobility-impaired hunters to take advantage of hunting opportunities.

This encourages me. I feel it demonstrates that hunting (in conjunction with sound Wildlife Management Plans) plays an important role in increasing herd sizes. Hunters do make a difference! Despite what other “doom and gloom” organizations say about our pastime.
