The Huntsville Weekender (July 14th edition), reports that the Huntsville Town Council has voted to allow Sunday hunting for deer and moose season this year. This was a reversal in their original decision made in May 2005. The issue was originally requested by the MNR in an effort to potentially cut-down on problems caused by an increase in wildlife – specifically deer.
This has not been an issue for me. If I “need” to hunt on Sunday I can grab my bow and broadheads and enjoy a full day in the bush. I am not sure that those against Sunday hunting are are aware of this. It would seem the idea of Sunday hunting was already decided with the creation of a bow season. What is happening now is merely bringing gun hunting regulations in line with what bow hunters have already been enjoying.
I got a chuckle out of one of the things that one of the town councillors said to support their idea of not allowing Sunday hunting. They said that Sunday hunting should not be allowed because there should be ‘relief’ during the hunting season. I assume they mean that the animals need a ‘break’ from being hunted. I have never asked an animal before if they needed a break, but it may be because I never had time in the other 49 weeks a year I am working my guts out and no one seems to be worried that much about me.
Just my opinion.
