Dad and I took another chance on Lake Vernon this past Saturday. Our fish finder was screaming suspended fish (we hoped they were lakers). This time there was a slight change in their position.
The week before, the fish were suspended in large numbers between 35 and 40 feet. On Saturday the were suspended off the bottom but not as deep. They averaged between 35 and 25 feet. The water temperature only increased a couple of degrees since our last fish. I think it was at 50 degrees F.
I tied on a couple of different lures (seen in photo) and hoped my change in presentation would trigger some strikes.
I even did some reel maintenance in anticipation of this trip the night before.
Still Nothing.
I think maybe next trip we will take some live bait so we can dangle it right in front of their faces. To me this seems like they easy way to haul in Laker, but I am getting a little desperate to land one before the water warms up and they retreat back to the depths.
We tried a large section of the lake close to our cottage before we left for the day. There were fish spread out in this bay. They were especially numerous off a small island we approached. I got a strike there, but they must have been just messing with our minds.
Anyone have any other ideas we could try?
The day ended with the silent purr of the E-tec streaking towards the dock.
Everyone…you just have to consider purchasing an E-tec. The gas savings is phenomenal and the quiet operation lets you experience more of the outdoors from the boat. It started like new after wintering in a friend’s garage.
