Can you say OVERREACTION!?

rifle.jpg The Chronicle Herald in Halifax, shares this headline with story: Rifle Kills Home Care.

Summary comments (you have to read their article):

A Nova Scotia woman with multiple sclerosis has lost her home care after a single incident of her husband forgetting to store his rifle in a gun cabinet.

The registered gun was quickly returned to its case

She’s been unable to get assistance in her home since the service was cut off one month ago, and spent part of Monday in a Halifax hospital

“Any risk where a home support worker feels it is an unsafe environment or there is some risk for them, that would trigger an assessment” – Spokesperson for Health Agency

This is crazy! The sight of a legally registered firearm in the home of the gun owner equates to a health care worker feeling that they are in an UNSAFE work environment?!

Can you imagine the rest of us who live with guns in their homes? Our living environments must be unbearable. The bigger issue to me is how can this health agency leave their patient without proper medical care over this issue? The CSSA (Canadian Shooting Sports Association) had similar concerns in their discussion about this article.

I feel a “Rant” coming on…maybe on my next entry!
