There is a northern lake that the Boys of Triple L fishing club visit each spring. One of the features in that lake is a ‘sunken island’ or ‘hump’ that we are convinced hold walleye. Our resident walleye pro, Russ, knows how to fish it but I have been wondering how I could fish it if he was not in my boat. Sam Anderson on his website has a great article with some pointers on how to fish these fish magnets. A sneak peak at his article reads:
The sunken island is sometimes refer to as a reef, a hump, maybe even a mud flat. These raised structural elements are a variation in the floor of the lake, river or reservoir. For example you can be running across your favorite lake looking at you depth finder and see the bottom come up from 40 feet deep to a 5 foot range. This is a “sunken island”, no there hasn’t been a sudden volcanic activity on your lake, but this structure is something that you should key in on when looking for walleyes.

Take some time to read it. Spring is coming and those ‘eyes are calling!
