Huntsville’s NEW FMZ.

zone_15map.gif According the the MNR Ontario website, Huntsville is in a new Fisheries Management Zone.
Fisheries Management Zone (FMZ) 15 includes Fishing Divisions 15 and 13 (Algonquin Park) and extends from Georgian Bay eastward to the Ottawa River.

The recreational fisheries are a mix of lake trout, brook trout, walleye and smallmouth bass in the lakes, and brook trout in many small streams.

This all part of the new changes the MNR would like to make in Ontario. There is a way to provide input…

The changes include: (Source MNR Ontario}

  • Reduced walleye limit to meet the proposed provincial standard.
  • Potential change in walleye season and new size limit pending consultation.
  • Implementation of a limit for yellow perch, crappie, sunfish, lake whitefish and channel catfish following provincial standards
  • Reduced season (winter closure) for sensitive native brook trout waters
  • Open season all year for stocked lake trout, brook trout, brown trout, splake, and rainbow trout to provide more angling opportunities .
  • The lake sturgeon open season is shorter to match the new provincial season.
  • Fall dipnetting for lake whitefish will be allowed in designated waters.

Part of Laxton, Dalton, Digby and Longford Townships, at the most northern tip of the Division 6, is now part of FMZ 15. As a result of the boundary realignment, this area will have different seasons for a variety of fish species to match the new zone.

About 91 of the exception regulations have been removed.

Specially Designated Waters Regulation Changes

There are no changes proposed for regulations in Algonquin Park. The wording of certain regulations may be changed to match provincial standards.
