I read on CTV’s website an article regarding changes to the Canadian Gun Registry that Stephen Harper is beginning to initiate. Here is an excerpt from that article:
“The Conservative government plans to gut the gun registry by granting an amnesty to rifle and shotgun owners, CTV News had learned.
As a result, the registry would only apply to handguns and automatic weapons.
The government is also expected to waive a $60 fee that more than 1.5 million Canadians must pay this year to renew their firearms registrations.” Full Article Here.
The article then goes on to say that various Police groups back the notion to keep the registry intact because of the recent officers killed from long guns. I do not mean to discredit the lives of the officers, but if the firearms in the shootings were registered (this information has not been given out), then this would indicate that registered guns do not lessen gun crimes. Criminals need to be the targets of gun control. This is accomplished by increasing police presence, provide funding for social programs for people and communities impacted by gun violence, and coming down hard on those who use guns for crime.

Its about time some one had the intelligence to see through this red elephant waste, and may I ad a burden to all us law abiding canadians who have carried on our fathers and forefathers heritage and tradition. I for one was very uncertain when mr Harper took office but he in recent weeks seems to be proving to be one well adjusted individual.Please dont think I will let my guard down for one minute because as well as we all know with politicions when there is good news this usually preceeds something not to good to absorb .But for now lets see if there really is some final sence to this fiasco which I am sure we all agree has done nothing more than punish honest hard working canadians like myself and all canadian outdoor enthusiastes.
