Moose Hunt 2005 Awesome!

No Moose “Harvested” but still a success!

The guys in Rip N’ Tear and Muskoka Outdoors fully realize that there is more to the hunt than the kill. I feel that a majority of hunters would understand our point of view.

Our Hunt was awesome because of the following occurences:

  • I got to spend time with my dad in the setting of the beautiful outdoors.
  • I was able to hunt with the rifle my grandfather once used before he died.
  • The smell of coffee, bacon and smoke from the crackle of hot flame in the woodstove.
  • Watching the early morning sun from the sanctuary of your tree stand.
  • Finding fresh deer beds in a place you have never walked over before.
  • A face to face encounter with a cow moose in grandpa’s old swamp. (We did not have a cow tag!)
  • Finding fresh deer beds in a place you have never walked over before.
  • Re-uniting with other family members over a ham sandwhich lunch.
  • Hunting videos over the hum of the generator.
  • Watching a deer eat from on the way to your watch.
  • Spending time with a new potential hunter and sharing “tips” behind our success.
  • The visit of friends from civilization with Tim Horton’s donuts and coffee.
  • Fixing and old tree stand.
  • Making a new deer watch.
  • Hearing a Bull moose enter the swamp just out of sight.
  • Walking across a beaver dam and falling in. (Nice one dad!)T-bone Steak Night!
  • The anticipation of the upcoming deer hunt…Priceless!

These things make hunting more than than an event that helps you fill your freezer with winter meat. They are exactly the kind of thing we need  to share with other non-hunters who may not understand why we love what we do.

Fishing and hunting is more about the people you are in the outdoors with, then the fish or game you catch. This is a outdoor truth I learned from fishing and hunting with my father and grandfather at an early age. Whether, I am fishing the back country of a Algonquin Park or the lakes and rivers of my hometown Huntsville, ON the story behind every fish and game animal is better shared with friends. Blogging is the way in which I can share the truths, the teachable moments, and the incredible memories of every outdoors trip.
